UK Status

Resident. Widespread and common throughout Britain as far north as southern Scotland where it is more local.

Montgomeryshire Status

Recorded from a handful of sites in the southern half of the county.

Wingspan :   M & F, 20-25mm.

Confusion species

Elophila nymphaeata and pale forms could resemble male Parapoynx stratiotata.
Flight time & Voltinity (Univoltine)

Habitat

Still water & slow flowing rivers.

Foodplant

Bur-reed and yellow water lily.

Lifestage data

Aquatic. Eggs laid on foodplant. Larva first enters stem, mining pith in all directions, later sometimes feeding in spun leaves just below water surface. Pupates in white silken cocoon attached to a plant.
